French Onions Meatloaf

✅️Ingredients

For the Meatloaf:
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 packet (1.25 ounces) dry French onion soup mix
1/2 cup beef broth
1/4 cup ketchup
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon black pepper

For the Topping:
1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar

✅️Preparation Steps

Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, dry French onion soup mix, beef broth, ketchup, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, dried thyme, and black pepper.
Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

Form the Meatloaf:
Transfer the meatloaf mixture into the prepared loaf pan, pressing it down to form an even loaf.

Bake the Meatloaf:
Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Prepare the Caramelized Onions:
While the meatloaf is baking, heat the unsalted butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the thinly sliced onions, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
Stir in the balsamic vinegar and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Add the Topping:
Once the meatloaf is done baking, remove it from the oven and top it with the shredded Gruyere cheese and caramelized onions.
Return the meatloaf to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve:
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Serve the French onion meatloaf hot.
