Ingredients:
- For the Beef:
- 1 lb (450g) beef (sirloin, flank steak, or any tender cut)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- For the Vegetables:
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup snow peas or green beans (optional)
- For the Rice:
- 2 cups cooked white rice (or brown rice, depending on preference)
- Salt, to taste
- Garnishes:
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- Green onions (chopped)
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
- Chili flakes (optional for spice)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Beef:
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain into strips.
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, minced garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar.
- Marinate the beef in this sauce mixture for about 10-20 minutes (or up to an hour for deeper flavor).
- Cook the Rice:
- Cook your rice according to the package instructions. You can use white, brown, or jasmine rice for this dish.
- Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
- Heat a little oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced peppers, onions, and snow peas/green beans. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes, until the veggies are tender but still slightly crisp.
- Remove them from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Beef:
- In the same pan, add a little more oil and heat it over medium-high.
- Add the marinated beef strips to the pan in a single layer and let them sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Stir occasionally to cook evenly, about 4-5 minutes total.
- Combine Everything:
- Add the stir-fried vegetables back to the pan with the beef and toss to combine. Cook for another minute or two to warm everything through.
- Assemble the Rice Bowl:
- Place a serving of cooked rice into each bowl.
- Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture over the rice.
- Garnish:
- Top with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, cilantro, and chili flakes (optional).
Tips:
- You can customize the veggies depending on what you have—broccoli, zucchini, or mushrooms also work well.
- For extra flavor, try adding a splash of soy sauce and a squeeze of lime before serving.
