🥘 Classic American Goulash (Full Recipe)
🧾 Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- 1 can (400–425 g) tomato sauce
- 1 can (400 g) diced tomatoes
- 1 ½ cups (360 ml) beef broth (or water)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

👨🍳 Instructions
- Cook the beef
Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned (5–7 minutes). Break it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed. - Add onion & garlic
Add the chopped onion and cook for about 3–4 minutes until soft.
Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. - Make the sauce
Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Mix well and bring to a light simmer. - Cook the pasta
Add the uncooked macaroni directly into the pot.
Stir, cover, and let it simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t stick.
Cook until pasta is tender. - Finish
Turn off heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted (optional but very tasty).
🍽️ Tips for Best Flavor
- Add chopped bell peppers with the onion for extra taste.
- If it gets too thick, add a little more broth.
- Taste and adjust salt at the end.
- Even better the next day!
If you meant the traditional Hungarian goulash (with beef chunks and paprika stew) instead, tell me—I’ll send that version too 👍
