A delicious mashup of Philly cheesesteak and sloppy joes – cheesy, beefy, and packed with flavor!
Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional, for color)
8 oz (225g) mushrooms, sliced (optional)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp smoked paprika
1 cup beef broth
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
8 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz for authenticity!)
4–6 hamburger buns or hoagie rolls, toasted
Instructions:
Cook the Beef & Veggies:
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat if needed.
Add onion, bell peppers, mushrooms (if using), and garlic. Sauté until veggies soften (about 5–7 minutes).
Season & Simmer:
Stir in salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and smoked paprika.
Add beef broth and tomato paste, mixing well.
For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with 1 tbsp water and stir into the mixture. Simmer for 5–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
Melt the Cheese:
Reduce heat to low and place slices of provolone cheese (or dollops of Cheez Whiz) over the beef mixture. Cover for 1–2 minutes until melted.
Serve:
Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted buns and enjoy immediately!
Optional Add-Ins:
Hot peppers for spice
Caramelized onions for extra sweetness
A splash of beer in the broth for depth
Perfect for a quick, hearty meal!
