Grandma’s Classic No-Bake Chocolate Oat Cookies

🍫 Grandma’s Classic No-Bake Chocolate Oat Cookies

(A 10-year-old can make these!)

⏱ Time

  • Prep: 10 minutes
  • Set: 20–30 minutes
  • Total: ~30 minutes

🧾 Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (115 g) butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (creamy is best)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups quick oats (not steel-cut)
  • Pinch of salt (optional but recommended)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Boil the base
In a medium saucepan, add butter, sugar, milk, and cocoa powder.
Bring to a rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  2. Time it carefully
Once it starts boiling, let it boil exactly 1 minute — no more, no less.
    (This step is the secret!)
  3. Remove from heat
Take the pot off the stove and immediately stir in:
    • Peanut butter
    • Vanilla extract
    • Salt (if using)
  4. Add the oats
Mix in the oats until fully coated.
  5. Drop and set
Spoon small mounds onto parchment paper or a tray.
Let them cool at room temperature for 20–30 minutes until firm.

✨ Tips from Grandma

  • Too soft? You didn’t boil long enough.
  • Too dry? You boiled too long.
  • Want extra flavor? Add shredded coconut or chopped nuts.
  • No peanut butter? Almond butter works too.

❤️ Why Everyone Loves Them

  • No oven
  • Pantry ingredients
  • Rich, chocolatey, nostalgic
  • Impossible to eat just one
