Here’s a wonderful recipe for Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce, a timeless and comforting dessert.

Ingredients for Bread Pudding:

4 cups day-old bread, cubed (use French bread or any sturdy loaf)
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup raisins (optional)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Ingredients for Vanilla Sauce:

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Directions for Bread Pudding:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter.
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
Add the cubed bread to the mixture, stirring gently to coat the bread. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to soak up the liquid.

Stir in the raisins (if using) and pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter on top.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center. A knife inserted in the middle should come out clean.
Directions for Vanilla Sauce:

In a small saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a simmer, about 4-5 minutes.
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let it cool slightly before serving.
Serving:
Serve the bread pudding warm, topped with a generous drizzle of vanilla sauce. It’s best enjoyed fresh out of the oven for that perfect blend of warm, spiced custard and creamy sauce!
