Homemade Bread
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour (you can substitute some with whole wheat flour)
1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter
Instructions:
Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Make the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil (or melted butter) to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Dough:
Punch down the dough to release any air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffed.
Bake the Bread:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool and Serve:
Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
