I made this recipe today, and my family absolutely loved it! These hamburger steaks smothered in a rich onion gravy are the perfect comfort food for a cozy dinner at home. The gravy is so flavorful, and the beef is tender and juicy.
Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon flour (for thickening gravy)
- 1/2 onion, sliced (for gravy)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for gravy)
Directions:
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the beef mixture into 4 patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the butter and sprinkle the flour over the onions. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually add the beef broth, whisking to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 5 minutes.
- Serve the hamburger steaks with gravy poured over the top.
Enjoy!
